Latest News from Board Meeting, Sept. 8th, 2009

First we want to thank everybody for your continuing patience with all the changes taking place, here at Harbor Pines. We are trying our best to get us back on an even keel, after some stormy weather.

Please look for new coupon books to be coming in the mail before the end of October . They will include instructions on where to send your fees. It will not be a full booklet, only to the end of the year. We will have new books for the new budget year beginning in January.

Now, for budget news; the budget committee has been getting together to discuss budget numbers, and thanks to everyone’s hard work with the vendors and bids, we believe that we can keep the fees stable, while fully funding the reserves, and get the things done in our community that need to be done!
Our goal is to have the budget ready to mail out before the end of October, and to approve at the budget meeting tentatively scheduled for December 1st at 6:30 pm.
The uncertainty is due to the fact that we have received a legal bill from the law firm .

A large portion of the legal fees were derived from two sources: (1) the previous board’s inappropriate use of the law firm to run day-to-day business of Harbor Pines (even though the board hired and paid a licensed CAM, Michelle Bucher); (2) the previous board’s opposition of the recall (even though it was apparent that they lacked the financial & business skills to appropriately manage Harbor Pines).
Whatever they are, we are legally liable for all of them. We have contacted the firm and negotiated a lower settlement and payment plan. For more details, see the newsletter or contact a board member

On a brighter note, after contacting the utility company and modifying our service (so we are only paying for services we are actually getting) we should see a significant savings there, along with a significant savings with our landscape contract.
